Shades of Power and Love was founded in 2019 by our President Deshannon Celestine. Recognizing the gender gap for women and lack of access to resources, she had the vision to exhibit the power of love by supporting sisters in need. Since its inception, Shades of Power and Love has helped the community through support groups, life coaching, food drives, and various programs. We serve the needs of our clients through training and providing the resources they need to help them transcend to their next level.
Here Is How We Accomplish Our Mission:
We provide judgement-free zone for women in need. Through our laser-focused programming, we encourage women to remove their masks and discover their purpose.
We aim to plant seeds in the lives of our clients and watch them blossom. Our organization believes in meeting clients where they are and developing a plan of action to help them reach their goals.
We focus on closing the economic gap for women. Through career development, skills training, and job placement, we work to decrease poverty and increase independence for our clients.
About the Founder
Shades of Power & Love, Inc. was born from my personal journey as a young single mother. I became a mom at 17, and instead of receiving support, I experienced judgment, isolation, and the harsh reality of having to figure out life alone. With little help—especially from the father of my child—I had to find strength in God, dig deep, and build a life for myself and my children from the ground up.
Because I’ve lived that journey, I know exactly how heavy it feels. I know what it’s like to cry behind closed doors, to feel the pressure of doing everything alone, and to long for a community that understands. Those years shaped me, strengthened me, and ultimately inspired the vision God placed in my heart.
In 2019, I founded Shades of Power & Love to create what I once needed:
a safe place where single mothers, teen moms, and women rebuilding their lives can find real help, real support, and real community.
My mission has always been to empower mothers with the tools and resources that make a tangible difference—career development, mentorship, emotional support, and financial assistance during moments of crisis. But just as important, I wanted to build a sisterhood… a space where no mother feels invisible or alone.
Many people say they understand how hard single motherhood is, but few step forward to help. Shades of Power & Love exists to fill that gap.
This organization is more than a nonprofit to me—it is my testimony, my calling, and a reflection of the strength, love, and grace that carried me through my own journey. Having walked the road of single motherhood for 25 years, I understand the weight, the sacrifices, and the strength it takes. That’s why I am so passionate about helping mothers who are navigating the path I once walked.
Because no mother should have to rebuild her life alone.
